Seagate Expansion: Couldn't stand it even for a day : Seagate Expansion 2.0 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive ST320005EXA101-RK

I (like everybody else) always read the reviews of an item before purchasing it. I was very skeptic about making this buy due to the bad reviews that i've read, but a friend convinced me that it was a good deal, and I went ahead and followed straight through with it.

Let me tell you I Was (and still am) Very pleased with this purchase! The drive installs easily, any way the only set back is that the drive isnt a true 1Tb Drive, only 931Gb's of the drive are usable. Aside from that, all runs perfectly with no problems what so ever.

A advice to anyone purchasing this, is to run a face scan on the drive prior putting anyone on it. This way if there are bad sectors, they can be fixed (which is part of the hypothesize why so many citizen suffer with having their drives die on them). Once running the face scan, if all is well with no bad sectors or errors (My Seagate was perfect with no errors or bad sectors), feel free to use at your leisure.

I suggest this to anyone finding for an external hard drive!

Surprisingly Awesome Subs! : MTX Audio Terminator Series TNE212D 1200 Watt Dual 12" Sub Enclosure

These subs hit pretty hard. They mostly hit the higher low frequency bass notes. I purchased these for a friend and tested them out in my car with a 2000 watt hifonics amp. For the most part they hit easily good for songs like "a milli by lil wayne" but doesnt hit low notes like if you played "i put on by young jeezy" the last 2 bass frequencies do not hit at all. From my time with it (maybe 3 weeks) even after a break in the lows just dont hit. Maybe other citizen are confused with "Low" frequencies by saying they hit lowwwww. They are loud sufficient though. Thorough i'd say 3.5 just because im used to subwoofers going lower and thats my taste.

This Hd died in less than 1 week. The problems started by the Hard Drive sticking and therefore the computer locked up.
The noise was so quiet that I had to put my up to the drive to hear that it was sticking. I gradually tapped on the drive
and it started up. Soon the drive started to loudly buzz and would do nothing. Returned to Seagate after 1 week.

All around great enclosure : Macally Hi-Speed eSATA/FireWire/USB 2.0 Storage Enclosure for 3.5-Inch SATA Hard Disk G-S350SUAB2 (Silver)

Let me begin by giving you a brief background on why I switched to this enclosure.

I used to run an Acomodata Usb 3.5 inch enclosure earlier with my 2Tb Hitachi Sata hard drive. Ran it for over an year. This was roughly noise free, running cool temperature-wise even with no built in fan. It had a problem though. It would just hang dead when trying to change a large chunk of Data (Usually greater than 2/3Gb) or burning a whole Dvd. It would also hang on a dead red while synchronizing my iPod. I knew it was the enclosure because the hard drive worked well with enclosures from work.

Enter Mcally Uab2. One other suspect I switched to this drive is because all laptops I have are Macbook with Firewire 800. This is a pricey but nice looking enclosure. Fully aluminium except the lid at the back which is plastic. Premise was smooth and all worked first try. No problem with 2Tb drives or transferring large chunks of data. Works well both with Pc and Mac. Firewire 800 is blazing fast. Here are some of the things you may want to know.

- It is noisey. The full aluminium housing amplifies the noise.
- It gets assuredly warm. Has no built-in fan.
- It will run only one port at a time. Meaning you cant associate a mac and a pc to it. It just stops the Hdd.
- As I mentioned earlier, the enclosure costs as much as a 750Gb hard drive.

So, I am ok with it. Not assuredly jumping in joy.

Unreliable/unable to recover from hard drive failure : D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Attached Storage Enclosure

I received a new unit from Amazon (fairly fast I might add), and everything is up and working. It was easily a bad unit. The unit has been working non-stop for 5+ months now and no complaint. I've even upgraded the firmware once to fix the Raid performance on it and it didn't even require me to wipe my data. It seems the new firmware revs are getting best and better. I would highly suggest this now after having it up and running for so long.

I'm giving it 4 Stars because the interface is still slightly buggy, not all the extra features work as expected, and the performance is not always as quick as possible. At times (regardless of computer or network activity) it is quicker than other times. I'm still using the same Seagate drives listed below. I plan to eventually get this running on gigE and that would probably solve some of my performance issues.

Well I bought one of these devices and put in two Seagate 200Gb hard drives (St3200820As) and it went right up and started running. Upgraded to the new firmware 1.2 and this ran fine for 10 days. I went on a trip and when I came back it had locked up. It wouldn't even power down by holding the power button as instructed. The only thing I could do was ping the device, but i could not passage any of my folders. Did a hard restart and then it never came up again. It would act like it was going to while the power on portion, but as soon as it was time to passage the hard drives, the Nas would shut itself down abruptly. I ultimately got it going by pulling one of the drives out,then it would start fine. I had it on Raid 1 (mirroring) and Ext3. I then proceeded to do a whole bunch of things including downgrading the firmware but it would just not work at all. It's going back but I'm trying to get other just in case this was a bad apple. Will update this later, but for now it gets 2 stars.
